Treatment Record
A thick accumulation of discoloured varnish had significantly altered the tonal relationships of the composition. Varnish was removed in stages using a 2:1 mixture of acetone and white spirit, tested on a small area first. Cracks were consolidated with Paraloid B-72. Inpainting was carried out in watercolour to reintegrate losses while preserving the original paint surface.
